Clyde E. CANNY

Clyde E. CANNY, age 81 of Bloomfield, went to be with our Lord at 8:50 AM, Monday, February 20, 2012 at Bloomfield Care Center, after battling Lymphoma cancer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 23, at Grace Funeral Care in Eldon, with Rev. Arthur VanWolde and Rev. Rick Admiral officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Ashland Cemetery (sic - Wapello Co.). Friends may call after 2:00 PM, Wednesday, at Grace Funeral Care, where the family will be present for visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Wednesday evening.

Clyde was born on October 6, 1930 in Eldon, the son of John and Mary ANDERSON CANNY. He was raised around Eldon, Floris, Chillicothe and Ottumwa, attending one room country schools in those areas. Before joining the military he worked for the Iowa Pacific Butter & Egg Company.

Clyde served as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force from July 3, 1951 to July 3, 1955 during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, as well as his unit receiving the Presidential Citation Award three times. His command was the biggest in the world, "307 Bomber Wing, SAC". He worked on the B29, C47, KC97, and C124.

On February 6, 1954 Clyde married the love of his life, Inez J. MITCHELL in Ottumwa. During this union four children were born. Inez preceded him in death on January 26, 2012.

Clyde was employed by John Morrell & Co. until their close in 1973, Acco Loudens in Fairfield for ten years, Iowa Beverage in Ottumwa, and Everco Industries in Ottumwa from which he retired.

Survivors include one daughter Deborah J. HINES of Bloomfield; three sons, Mark CANNY and wife Cindy of Colfax, Rick CANNY and wife Marty of Bloomfield, and Clifford CANNY of Bloomfield; one granddaughter, Lisa L. HOWELL of Bloomfield; five grandsons, Alexander and Benjamin CANNY of Colfax, Michael CANNY of Ottumwa, Ronald E. CANNY of Washington, and Justin CANNY of Wayland; two step-grandsons, Steve BOER of Bloomfield and Greg BOER of Cedar Rapids; one great-grandson Blake HOWELL of Bloomfield; one sister Bernice WILSON of Mountain Grove, MO; one sister-in-law Dorothy CANNY of Ottumwa; and many nieces and nephews.

Clyde was preceded in death by his wife Inez, his parents, three brothers Carl, Charles, and Clarence CANNY, four sisters Beulah CANTRELL, Bessie FITE, Mary L. CHRISTENSEN, and an infant sisters, and one son-in-law Ricardo D. "Rick" HINES.

A memorial fund is being established to assist the family with funeral expenses, and may be left at Grace Funeral Care in Eldon.
