Oren F. CHAMP, 76, 1558 Nipa Blvd., died at 3:24 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 1, 1996, at Jefferson County Hospital.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Norman Channel officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Jefferson County Hospital and Jefferson County Cancer Society.
CHAMP was born March 23, 1920, in Fairfield, the son of Fay Oral and Eulalia Sylvania CARLOW CHAMP. A resident of Jefferson County most of his life, he graduated from Fairfield High School in 1938. On Aug. 20, 1944, he married Dorothy L. BRUDER (sic. BRUDERS) at the Christian Church in Fairfield. He was an engineering technician for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 30 years, retiring in 1978. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II in Normandy, Anzio and the South Pacific.
Surviving are his wife of Fairfield; a daughter, Sherry CHAMP of Fairfield; two brothers, John "Jack" of Waterloo, Robert of Keosauqua; three sisters, Kathryn CHAMP and Charlotte CHAMP, both of Fairfield, and Mary KISLING of Keosauqua. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wayne, Marion and Clarence CHAMP; and a sister, Elizabeth "Jeannie."
