JOSEPH BURKE DIES AT HOME NEAR PERLEE
Had been a resident of Jefferson county for past 60 years

Joseph BURKE, Sr. long time resident of Jefferson county, passed away at his home near Perlee at 4:30 a.m. today after an extended illness. He had been seriously ill for the past six months and bedfast for five weeks.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic church in charge of Rev. Fr. H. M. Thoman. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Joseph BURKE was born March 25, 1854, in Pennsylvania. He had lived for the past 60 years in Jefferson county in Buchanan township. He was a farmer practically all of his life. His wife preceded him in death on March 5, 1934.

He is survived by the following children. Frank, Fairfield; John, Chicago; Mrs. Leu BAKER, Washington, Iowa; Miss Josephine BURKE, New York; Mrs. Don GREESON, Newton, Joseph, Jr., Fairfield; Phelix, Georgetown, Tenn; Mrs. Roy KENDRICKS, Fairfield; Mrs. Clara VON BUENING, Peoria; and Mrs. Bertha SAMUELS, LeRoy, Minn.

... --Mr. and Mrs. L. R. BAKER and daughter, Mrs. Gene CROSSETT and her small son, Gene Jr., of Washington were here today to attend the funeral services of Mrs. BAKER's father, Joseph BURKE held this morning at St. Mary's Catholic church.

... --Mr. and Mrs. Leu BAKER, daughter and grandson of Washington, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Don GREENSON (sic - GREESON) of Newton and Mrs. Ted VON BUENING of Peoria, Ill. who were called here by the death of Joseph BURKE have returned to their homes. Mr. BURKE who was the father of Mrs. BAKER, Mrs. GREENSON (sic) and Mrs. VON BUENING passed away at his home near Perlee on Tuesday. A son, John BURKE of Chicago, Ill. is still with relatives in this vicinity. Phelix BURKE of Georgetown, Tenn. did not receive the news of his father's death in time to come to attend the services, it was said. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Strang of Mt. Pleasant, friends of the family were also in attendance.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Notice is hereby given that an instrument, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Joseph BURKE, Deceased is now on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, and that October 18, A. D. 1943 at 9:30 o'clock a.m. has been set for proof and final hearing of same.

Witness my hand and the seal of said Court, this 18th day of September, 1943.
