Merle Marie Hartley, 92, of 807 W. Taylor Ave., died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Nelson Nursing Home.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Baker officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery in Batavia.

Family visitation will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Nelson Nursing Homes activity fund.

Mrs. Hartley was born April 17, 1911, near Glasgow, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Gilbert and Dollie Mae Hall Martin. She married Ernest Hartley July 1, 1929, in Ottumwa. He died April 19, 1983.

Mrs. Hartley lived in Batavia. She moved there after living more than 41 years on a farm near Glasgow. She was a farm homemaker. Her pastime was gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Irene Filson and husband Floyd of Birmingham and Darlene Wells and husband Don of Batavia; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carl and Glenn Martin; and three sisters, Nora, Maude and Velma.
