Carrol John Whitmore, 67, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Batavia, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, in Albuquerque.

The body has been cremated. A memorial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, with the Rev. Darwin Eckley officiating. Inurnment will be in the Batavia Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mr. Whitmore was born Sept. 28, 1936, in Jefferson County, the son of Harvey Ralph and Grace Ivy McCleary Whitmore.

Mr. Whitmore was raised and educated in Batavia, graduating from Batavia High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army serving a tour in Korea, following the Korean conflict. He moved to New Mexico in 1962. He was previously employed with Ameron Corp in Albuquerque and was self-employed in masonry. He had been employed by the Albuquerque Taxi Company for the past several years.

Mr. Whitmore was a racing fan and traveled with the Hindi Racing Team of New Mexico. He and Cecil Trantham traveled across the U.S. with the World of Outlaw Racing Association. He was a pit crew member of the Buddy Taylor Racing team at the Knoxville races in Knoxville, Iowa and a member of the New Mexico Racing Association.

Survivors include his stepmother, Florence Whitmore of Fairfield; three stepsons, Michael and Charles Lucas of Albuquerque and John Richard Mitz of Texas; and one sister, Juanita Shipler of Batavia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph Whitmore; and one sister, Mary Ruth Ruggles.
