Edith Irene Anderson, 81, of Brighton died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at Park Place Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville, with the Rev. Stephen J. Estrem and the Rev. Wayne Wilken officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery adjacent to the church.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m. at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Anderson was born April 24, 1922, the daughter of Andrew and Ada Diers Zihlman. She married Gerald C. Anderson Feb. 27, 1946, at Hope Lutheran Church near Germanville. The wedding occurred on the 25th wedding anniversary of her parents and the 50th anniversary of her grandparents, George and Emma Diers.

Mrs. Anderson attended Sharpes Corner country school and graduated from the Brighton High School in 1939, when she also received a Normal Training certificate. She taught rural schools for five years and worked in the office of Louden Machinery Company the latter part of 1945. After her marriage, she and her husband resided on a farm near Germanville.

She taught Sunday school, which included being superintendent of the Sunday school and Bible school, and was the Girls 4-H leader of the Walnut Lassies for four years, served on the Farm Bureau Womens Board, HLCW Women's group of the AALC, Extension Council and lead a class on the Stephen Bible series.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Dianne Eckhardt of Seattle, Wash.; one son, Larry Anderson of Brighton; one sister, Leola Trabert of Brighton; and four granddaughters.

Her parents and an infant sister preceded her in death.
