Bernice Irene Hutton, 85, of Hedrick died at 12:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at her home.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.

Visitation began at 9 a.m. today. The family will be present from 6-7 tonight.

Mrs. Hutton was born Nov. 2, 1917, in Wapello County, the daughter of Jenkins Hamilton and Sylvia Roach Mason. She married Donald D. "Deak" Hutton Dec. 28, 1940, in Lancaster, Mo. He died March 18, 1991.

Mrs. Hutton was a resident of Hedrick for most of her life. She worked as a caregiver in various nursing homes.

She was a member of Hedrick Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship and Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Unit No. 83 American Legion Auxiliary in Hedrick.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Bertsch of Fairfield and Carolyn Besco of Ottumwa; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, D.B. "Babe" and Ivan "Buzz" Mason; and one sister, Lois Marie Slesinski.
