Zalenty (sic - Valenty) BYCZEK, 78 years of age, passed away this noon at the Jefferson County Hospital, after a ten days' illness.
He is survived by his wife and eight children.
No funeral arrangements have yet been made.

By Julia M. Hall, FairfieldLast Wednesday evening occurred the death of Valentine BYCZEK at his home in Fairfield. Mr. BYCZEK was well known in this community, having lived on the farm east of Glasgow until he moved ot Fairfield leaving the farm in charge of his son, Ed. Although by BYCZKY (sic) lived in town he spent a great deal of his time on the farm helping with the work. He was always cheerful and ready to help in time of need. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at ten at the St. Mary's Catholic church. Interment in the Evergreen cemetery. ...

VALENTINE BYCZEK
After a lingering illness Valentine BYCZEK died at the Jefferson County hospital Wednesday at 11:59 a.m. He was one of the early pioneers of Jefferson county.
Mr. BYCZEK was born in Posen, Poland in 1844. Coming to America in 1865, he went to Chicago where he married Miss Anna ZMICK (sic - ZMICH) in 1871. In 1873 he settled on a farm near Germanville, later moving near Glasgow and in the past few years has made his home in Fairfield. He was the father of eleven children.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Valentine BYCZEK and nine children, Frank G., Joseph J., Wallace, Philip J., Edward P., Mrs. Frank R. BROWN, Mrs. John G. RANKIN, Mrs. Edward KASOUSKI, and Mrs. Charles McGUIRE. There are twelve grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church Saturday morning at 10 oclock.

Note: Buried in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. 3rd.037. "VALENTY" is the name used on his footstone. Born on February 14, 1844 and died on July 25, 1923.

To All Whom It May Concern:
Notice is hereby given that an instrument, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Valenty BYCZEK deceased, is now on file in the office of the Clerk of the district court of Jefferson county, and that Saturday, August 25, A. D. 1923 at 10 oclock A. M., has been set for proof and final hearing of same.
Witness my hand and the seal of said court this 30th day of July, 1923.
