Clarence A. SMITHBURG

Clarence A. SMITHBURG, 90, of Lockridge, died at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Veterans Medical Center in Iowa City.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at New Sweden Methodist Church, northwest of Lockridge, with lay pastor Diane Brokken and the Rev. Tom Rimmer officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in New Sweden Methodist Church Cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to New Sweden Methodist Church.

Mr. SMITHBURG was born Oct. 31, 1910, in Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Ralph Edward and Eva HANNA SMITHBURG. He married Wilma Faye LYNN Nov. 5, 1946, in Four Corners in Jefferson County.

He farmed for most of his life in the Lockridge township. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II.

He was a member of the Fairfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2271.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma SMITHBURG of Lockridge; two daughters, Linda BOESE of Knoxville and Nancy ASBY of Columbus Junction; one son, Edward SMITHBURG of West Olive, Mich.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Everett SMITHBURG of Fairfield; and one sister, Irene WEST of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Minnie HOUTS.
