Dorothy Marie VORHIES

Dorothy Marie VORHIES, 86, of Lockridge died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant, where she had been a resident since February.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home, with Diane Brokken officiating. Burial will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery near Germanville.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Lockridge Senior Citizen Center or Hope Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. VORHIES was born April 16, 1914, in Brighton, the daughter of Alexander and Josephine STORTZ SCHLARBAUM. She married Otto Fay VORHIES Nov. 30, 1935, in Fairfield. He died June 25, 1966.

Mrs. VORHIES grew up in the Germanville-Brighton community, graduating from Brighton High School.

She and her husband lived their entire married life in the Lockridge community. Following her husband's death, she continued to make her home in Lockridge until February when she moved to Pleasant Manor Care Center.

She had worked as a cook at the Lockridge school and the cafe in Lockridge. She also had worked in the laundry at the Jefferson County Hospital.

Mrs. VORHIES was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret and Alva ESHELMAN of Lockridge and Joan BERG of Columbia, Mo.; one son, Donald and Gladys VORHIES of Lockridge; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were two daughters, Helen VORHIES and Elaine McCLURE; one son, Walter VORHIES; and one sister, Ethel RUBEY.
