Fred LATHROP Rites Pending

Fred LATHROP (sic. James Frederick "Fred" LATHROP), 70, was dead on arrival at the Jefferson county hospital about 11:20 p.m. last night.

He had been seriously ill for the past three weeks at his home, 610 W. Van Buren, and became critical last night.

The body is at the Weston Behner funeral home where last rites are pending.

Fred LATHROP was born Dec. 19, 1892 in Fairfield, the son of Jasper and Alice WHITAKER LATHROP. He married Jennie HARPER (sic. Rebecca Jane "Jennie" HARPER LATHROP) July 16, 1909 (sic. 1910) who survives.

A member of the Calvary Baptist church, he had lived in Fairfield and Davenport throughout his entire life. He was a roofing contractor for many years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Jasper LATHROP, Davenport, Chester A. , also of Davenport; one daughter, Mrs. Opal DeJONG ( Opal E LATHROP SCHERZ DeJONG ), Oakland, Calif.; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. George MANLY (sic. MANLEY), Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by one son, four sisters and four brothers.
