Pg. 2 Col. 3CLYDE SMITH DIED THIS FORENOON
Clyde SMITH, who resides on West Van Buren street died this morning at 10:30 o'clock, from influenza, after an illness of about two weeks.
Mr. SMITH has resided in this city for several years, and was in the employ of the Louden Machinery Co. He was married to Miss Lenora LATHROP, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper LATHROP.
Mrs. SMITH's mother, Mrs. Jasper LATHROP is also critically ill with influenza (sic. Alice Rachel WHITAKER LATHROP, who died just a few days later).
The arrangements for the funeral have not been made (sic. Clyde was buried in 2nd.091 at Evergreen cemetery. His wife, Leora, remarried to a Jacob THOMPSON. She was buried beside Clyde in this same plot, in an unmarked grave under the THOMPSON married surname).

Son of Francis Henry "Frank" SMITH and Nellie Susan CARTER SMITH.
First husband of Leora Cora LATHROP SMITH/THOMPSON, married December 25, 1918 in Jefferson county, Iowa. He died less than two weeks after their marriage. Note: some sources used 1915 for the marriage year. The correct date was December 25, 1918.
Buried in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. 2nd.091.
