Edward G. LATHROP, 73, lifetime resident of Fairfield, died early today at University hospital in Iowa City as a result of injuries received Thursday in a highway crash near Olds.
Funeral arrangements are pending. The body is at the Weston Behner Funeral home.
A 1960 pickup truck driven by LATHOP collided with a semi-trailer truck shortly after noon Thursday at the junction of Highways 78 and 218. LATHROP sustained multiple fractures and other injuries.
Officers said LATHROP was driving east on Highway 78. A Brady Motor Freight truck, driven by Ray S. Ohanesian, Bettendorf, was traveling north on Highway 218. Ohanesian was not injured. The semi-trailer struck the LATHROP vehicle on the right side, knocking it into the ditch.
LATHROP, a salesman, was born Dec. 26, 1876 (sic - 1887) in Fairfield. He was the son of Jasper and Alice WHITAKER LATHROP. He was married to Carrie Bell HOUCK, Jan. 27, 1907.
Surviving are his wife and the following children: Charles LATHROP, Felton, C lif. (sic); Russell LATHROP, San Pablo, Calif.; Mrs. Chester CALHOUN, Kennewick, Wash.; Mrs. Walter SCHADT, Seattle, Wa h. (sic); Melvin LATHROP, Doud (sic - Douds) and Glenn LATHROP, Ottumwa.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, one great grandchild, one sister, Mrs. George MANLEY, F irfield (sic), and one brother, Fred LATHROP, Davenport. One son, one daughter, four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
