William S. GRIFFIN

William S. GRIFFIN, 77, of Nelson Nursing Home, died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 1991, at Jefferson County Hospital.

He was born Oct. 19, 1914, in Coin, the son of Archie and Ethel RHODES GRIFFIN. He married Erma ALLEN on Oct. 19, 1963, in Ottumwa, and she survives.

GRIFFIN was a longtime resident of the Fairfield community and had recently moved back after living in Arkansas. He was a self-employed plasterer for Griffin's Plastering and a United States Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are four sons, Billie GRIFFIN, Larry GRIFFIN Sr. and Terry GRIFFIN of Fairfield and Robert GRIFFIN of Rock Island, Ill.; two daughters, Susan MOWERY of Rock Island and Tammy HAIFLEY of Des Moines; one stepson, Eugene; and two stepdaughters, Connie and Carol; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Gail "Pete" GRIFFIN of Morrilton, Ark., and George GRIFFIN of Fairfield; and two sisters, Betty BILLINGSLEY and Shirley BARROWS (sic - BARROW) of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Artie, Ray and Earl; one sister, Mary; and one grandson, Danny.

Graveside rites will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, the Rev. Stephen Higdon officiating. Visitation will begin Sunday with family visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial has been established to the Nelson Nursing Home activity fund.
