Charles Hale CONLEE

Charles Hale CONLEE, 88, of Solon, formerly of Cantril, died at 2:23 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Solon Nursing Care Center.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial of cremains, with military rites by American Legion Russell-Strait Post, will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.

Memorials to Cantril Grass Roots for Waubonsie State Park may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 105 Weston Drive East, North Liberty 52317.

Mr. CONLEE was born Sept. 24, 1923, near Cantril, the son of Charles and Chloe HALE CONLEE. He married Mildred LUCKE JOHNSON Aug. 14, 1960, in Cantril. She died Sept. 25, 2008.

Mr. CONLEE graduated from Milton High School in 1940. He farmed near Cantril and was a custodian in Fox Valley and Van Buren schools. He also was a bus driver for Fox Valley for 35 years.

Mr. CONLEE served in the United States Army as an aircraft mechanic in Hawaii, the Philippines and Japan during World War II.

He was a longtime member of American Legion Russell-Strait Post No. 483.

Survivors include one step-daughter, Janet JOHNSON NORRIS of Berkeley, Calif.; one stepson, David JOHNSON and wife Brenda of North Liberty; one stepdaughter-in-law, Beverly JOHNSON of Hoover, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two stepsons, William and Stanley JOHNSON; one grandson; and three sisters.
