Morris Leonard COLE, 79, of Douds, died at 8:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, in the Van Buren County Hospital emergency room in Keosauqua.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. The body has been cremated. Burial will be in Pittsburg Cemetery west of Keosauqua.
Gifts for a memorial to be designated later by the family may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 14765 McClure St., Douds 52551.
Mr. COLE was born Jan. 10, 1933, in Pittsburg, the son of Morris Joshua and Vergil Marie ROBBINS COLE. He married Karlene M. STONE June 30, 1956, in Keosauqua. She died Aug. 7, 1994.
Mr. COLE lived all his life in Van Buren County. He had farmed and was self-employed as a bulldozer operator and truck driver. He also had driven a rock truck for Frank Caves and operated a dozer for Gary Franklin.
Mr. COLE was a veteran of the United States Army.
He was a member of Eagles Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Fairfield.
Survivors include his special friend, Betty Cloke; one son, Lennie COLE of Douds; one daughter, Joyce SINGER of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jimmy COLE of Bentonsport and Ronnie COLE of Seattle, Wash.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Martha DROZ.
