Donald Leroy LEEDY

Donald Leroy LEEDY, 84, of Siletz, Ore., died from heart failure Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at home.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at Netarts Community Club in Netarts, Ore. Private interment will be alongside Mrs. LEEDY at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Tillamook, Ore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his family for burial and end of life expenses. Any additional funds will be donated to the Oregon Coast Children's Theater, Disabled American Veterans Fund and St. Labre Indian School. Donations made to Donald L. Leedy/Larry Adrian may be sent to Bank of the West, P.O. Box 207, Siletz, OR 93780.

Mr. LEEDY was born Sept. 12, 1927, on a farm near Fairfield, the son of George Elbert LEEDY and Jayne JONES. He was raised by his mother and stepfather Hermon (sic - John Herman) JOHNSON. He married Shirley Ann HANSEN July 15, 1951, in Burlington. She died in 2001.

Mr. LEEDY attended Fairfield schools and graduated from Parsons College in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in biology. Ornithology had been his area of study. In 1952, the LEEDYs moved to Oregon, where Mr. LEEDY worked 13 years for Portland General Electric in sales and reading meters. He also was a construction superintendent with Culver Construction 10 years. He worked with Randall Construction and other major builders in the Portland metropolitan area. In 1975, he formed Leedy Construction and built many homes and apartments. Mr. LEEDY retired in 1987 and moved to Netarts, Ore.

Mr. LEEDY served in the United States Army from 1946-1947 and then in the Army National Guard for many years.

He served four years as a trustee for the Netarts Community Club and six years as director of the Netarts Water District. He also was chairman for the Netarts Water Board District from 1995-1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Laurie LEEDY of Darby, Mont., and Robin BUCHHOLZ of Salem, Ore.; one son, Lawrence D. ADRIAN of Siletz, Ore.; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
