ED DOUGLAS CRITICALLY ILL AT HIS HOME

Ed DOUGLAS who makes his home with his sister-in-law Mrs. Milton DOUGLAS and her son Floyd, one-half mile east of town is reported as critically ill at his home.

Note: Given name was Edward Douglas. One obituary use "Ed", while a second, fuller obituary, used "Edd" in reference to his first name. His grave is unmarked, so no headstone is available for that clarification.

ED DOUGLAS DIED TODAY
Funeral services set for Saturday, 2 p.m., at Hoskins Funeral Home

Ed DOUGLAS, 75, passed away at 1 a. m. this morning at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Milton DOUGLAS (sic. Nellie Christina BOWERMASTER DOUGLAS), one-half mile east of the city. He had been in poor health for the past year, and seriously ill for the past week.

Services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Hoskins funeral home, in charge of Rev. S.P. Williamson. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. DOUGLAS was born April 5, 1865, in Virginia. He is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Orin WARD and Mrs. Jesse WISE, both of Fairfield; one nephew, Floyd DOUGLAS of near Fairfield. He was preceded in death by one brother, Milton DOUGLAS, and one sister, Mrs. Geo. ANDERSON (sic. Ellen J. DOUGLAS ANDERSON, 1859-1888). He had always made his home with his brother, Milton DOUGLAS.

OBITUARY

EDD DOUGLAS

Edd, one of the three children of William and Harriet DOUGLAS was born on April 5, 1865 in the State of Virginia. When a small child the family moved to Jefferson county and his home has been here ever since.

He was never married and lived practically all of his life with his brother, Milton DOUGLAS whose goodness and kindness to Edd was known to all. Since the death of his brother his home has been with his sister-in-law Mrs. Milton DOUGLAS and her son Floyd, east of Fairfield.

He was the last member of his immediate family. Surviving relatives are his sister-in-law Mrs. DOUGLAS, 2 nieces, Mrs. Nora WISE and Mrs. Beatrice WARD and 2 nephews Floyd DOUGLAS of Fairfield and Clarence ANDERSON of Fort Madison. He will be missed by his loved ones and especially in the home where he lived.

His parents, a sister, Mrs. George ANDERSON and a brother Milton DOUGLAS and a niece Mrs. Addie PHILLIPS have preceded him in death. Edd lived a quiet life. He was a hard worker, honest and kind and was loved by all who knew him. He was taken ill on September 7, 1940 and grew gradually worse till he passed away on Thursday morning at one o'clcock on September 19, 1940, when past 75 years of age.

Services were held Saturday, Sept. 21, at Hoskins Funeral Home in charge of Rev. S. P. Williamson, with burial in the family lot at Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Liblin, W. P. Holcomb, Ralph Kessell, William Byers, Joe Hagen, John Crouner.

Mrs. Williamson sang "Abide With Me" and "In the Garden", accompanied by Miss Reva Patten.

Note: Buried in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. His grave is on the east half of Old.P.116, unmarked, between that of his sister Ellen to his north side and his brother Milton to his south side. Their mother, Harriet DOUGLAS, is also buried on the east side of this lot. Where the father, William DOUGLAS, is buried (or when and where he died, for that matter) isn't known.
