Loren Eugene MOORE

Loren Eugene MOORE, 93, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Washington County Hospital.

A funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church, in Washington, Iowa with the Rev. Troy Richmond officiating.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Jones Eden Funeral Home, in Washington, Iowa. Interment, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 29 of Washington, will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.

A general memorial has been established.

Mr. MOORE was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Fairfield, the son of Joseph Newton and Myrtle Jane BAKER MOORE. He married Alice F. KIENE WEHR Oct. 28, 1948, in Washington.

Mr. MOORE graduated from Brighton High School in 1937. He had lived in Washington, Iowa, since 1948. He was a barber for more than 20 years, retiring in 1983. Following his retirement, he worked as a custodian at Stewart Elementary School in Washington for 11 years.

Mr. MOORE served in the United States Army during World War II.

He attended St. James Catholic Church in Washington.

Mr. MOORE enjoyed having coffee with friends, golfing, playing Pinochle and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Alice MOORE of Washington; two sons, Lary WEHR and wife Pamela of McCall, Idaho, and Kelvin MOORE and wife Sara of Centenial, Colo.; one daughter, Linda HELLING and husband John of Harlan; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer E. MOORE and an infant; two sisters, Mabel L. DOWNING and an infant; and one half brother, Donal MOORE.
