John William WAHRER

John William WAHRER, 83, of Fort Madison, formerly of Donnellson, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Regency Care Facility in Norwalk.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery. (Note: in Van Buren County, IA)

Family visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established.

Mr. WAHRER was born Oct. 24, 1928, in Charleston, the son of Truman Joseph and Helen WAHRER. He married Patricia G. GAUMER Nov. 11, 1950. She died Jan. 9, 2010.

Mr. WAHRER was a professor at Parsons College in Fairfield. He was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.

Mr. WAHRER was a member of the Keokuk Elks Lodge.

He enjoyed golfing, sports and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He was an Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include two sons, Jon WAHRER of Overland Park, Kan., and Tim WAHRER of Donnellson; one daughter, Capi BRUNER and husband Les of Norwalk; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mae CROWE of Donnellson.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parens and one brother, Joseph.
