Bonita "Bonnie" B. CREEK YOUNG of Glenwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at the Hospice with Heart home in Glenwood.
A funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hertz Funeral Home of Glenwood. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.
Mrs. YOUNG was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Libertyville, the daughter of John Lee and Ruby Pearl HUTTON CREEK. She married Elwood Marvin "Jack" YOUNG Dec. 22, 1946, in Council Bluffs.
Mrs. YOUNG grew up in Libertyville and graduated from Libertyville High School in 1942. She worked at her father's service station. She attended business school in Ottumwa. She then began working with the soil conservation office and was then transferred to Council Bluffs. She and her husband moved to Chicago while he attended Northern Illinois College of Optometry, and she worked various secretarial jobs. He graduated in 1949, and the couple returned to Council Bluffs. In 1950, he purchased an optometry practice in Glenwood. In 1952, they moved to Glenwood. Mrs. YOUNG worked as secretary to the superintendent of the Glenwood State Hospital School and then in the optometric practice for more than 40 years, helping with eyewear selection, patient testing and bookkeeping. She lived in the home her husband built in 1960 until fall of this year.
Mrs. YOUNG belonged to First Congregational United Church of Christ in 1953, having served as church clerk for many years and also as church president. She also served as secretary for the Southwest Iowa Association for UCC for eight years. She was board secretary to Loess Hills Estates for 10 years. She was a member of Chapter FF PEO, holding various offices and positions. She helped organize early Hospice efforts in the mid1980s (sic).
She enjoyed golf, bridge, gardening, reading and traveling.
Survivors include two daughters, Jacque YOUNG and husband Howard KAMISH of Glenwood and Shelly LYNCH LEWIS and husband Gregory of New Virginia, Iowa; four grandchildren; and twin great-grandsons.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Benny Lee CREEK and Byron Edwin CREEK.
