Timothy Wayne SCHLATTER, 54, of Richmond, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at home.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Shiloh. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in North Hill Cemetery in Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Shiloh in support of the health commission or memorial cemetery or to Hospice of Iowa City.
Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. SCHLATTER was born Oct. 28, 1957, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Dick and Mary BOWSER SCHLATTER. He married Jeane COCHRUM CABRAL Oct. 25, 2008.
Mr. SCHLATTER graduated from WACO High School in 1976 and from the University of Iowa in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and human resources. He played football and basketball throughout junior high and high school and was a member of the University of Iowa football squad from 1976-1978.
Mr. SCHLATTER worked in the family business, Schlatter Garage, for 10 years. He worked in construction during three summers while at the University of Iowa and worked three years in Colorado on drilling rigs owned by Scott and Judy Utz. After graduation, he managed the knife and gun department at Cook Sporting Goods in Henderson, Colo. He worked as a sales representative for Gerber Legendary Blades of Oregon, when he lived in Kansas City, Kan., and later Saint Petersburg, Fla., before moving back to the Kalona area. He managed Finn and Feather Sporting Goods stores in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids for two years, after which he represented Ferguson-Keller Associates Inc. of Minneapolis, Minn., working with Bass Pro shops as senior account representative until August.
He had been cared for at home the past week by his family and Hospice of Iowa City.
Mr. SCHLATTER was a member of The Living Word Fellowship at Shiloh. He was a supporter of Pheasants Forever, White Tail Unlimited and Wild Turkey Federation.
He enjoyed the outdoors, attending and watching sporting events, especially those of his little brother, nephews and niece, traveling and experiencing life.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Kalona; two stepchildren, Kristin CABRAL of Riverside and John CABRAL of Maui, Hawaii; two sisters, Tamara HECKENDORN of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Dixie YOUNG of Washington; one brother, Steve SCHLATTER of Story City.
