Stephanie Jane ROBERTS, 78, of Fairfield, died this morning, Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Stephanie Jane ROBERTS

Stephanie Jane ROBERTS, 78, of Fairfield, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 21, 2011, at Jefferson County Health Center.

A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Prairie City, with the Rev. Nate Nims officiating.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. Cards and memorials may be sent to 2204 Westhills Drive, Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. ROBERTS was born, Betty Mae WHISNER, Dec. 16, 1933, in Perry, the daughter of Carl and Jenny WHISNER. She married Leo Eugene "Gene" ROBERTS June 15, 1952, in Des Moines.

Mrs. ROBERTS lived in an orphanage for several years. In 1940, she was adopted by Hugh and Faye DOUGLASS of New London, and they changed her name to Stephanie Jane DOUGLASS. The DOUGLASS family moved to Des Moines, and Mrs. ROBERTS graduated from Des Moines Lincoln High School in 1951. She and her husband lived in Illinois, where he was stationed in the Air Force for two years. Later, they moved back to Des Moines, and Mrs. ROBERTS was employed by McRae-Renaud Insurance Agency for more than 20 years. Most recently, the couple moved from Russell to Fairfield.

Mrs. ROBERTS enjoyed spending time with friends and family, water walking, reading, listening to music and cooking for others.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Victoria EASTBURN and husband David of Fairfield; one son, Scott ROBERTS and wife Karen of Lamoni; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents.
