* Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Notes:
Daughter of Everett Brinton LANE and his first wife Nellie DILL LANE. Nellie DILL LANE died on August 11, 1898, just a few weeks before Ruby/Rubie died. They are buried side by side in the LANE family plot (Old.P.104, Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa), but their graves are not marked with headstones. They are flanked with Everett Brinton LANE on the north side of the burial row, and his third wife Nellie LINN LANE on the south side (they each have individual headstones).

The DOB has been calculated to be May 15, 1897.

The Jefferson county birth records give the birth name as "Rubie"; the obituary for her father refers to her as "Ruby". Will use "Ruby" in deference to the father's obituary, but family researchers can and should be aware that the official birth record uses "Rubie."

The burial permit issued did use "Ruby LANE" for the name, and the date of death as Sept. 13, 1898. Other sources have been found that used October 1898, but those sources should be taken with caution vs. the official burial permit date of death. Evidently the Evergreen cemetery plat layout listing provides a burial date sometime in October 1898. That isn't consistent with the obituary/death notice that implied that burial took place shortly after death on September 13, 1898. It is possible that the burial wasn't recorded in writing until sometime in October, 1898, giving the misleading impression that the death and burial took place in October, 1898.
