MISS TILLIE BURKE DIED THIS MORNING AT HOSPITAL HERE

Miss Tillie BURKE passed away at the Jefferson county hospital at 2 o'clock this morning following an extended illness. She had been in failing health for sometime and was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening.

The body was taken to the Campbell Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

Miss BURKE made her home with a half brother, Jake SHANSTROM, northwest of the city, and is well known in that community.

OBITUARY

MATILDA BURKE

Matilda Christana BURKE was born in Sweden in the year of 1867, being at the time of her death 64 years, 9 months, and 5 days of age. She was a member of the Methodist church of Brookville.

She has been failing in health for a number of years, not being able to leave her room for ten years. Through it all she has been a patient sufferer, having suffered intense pain for a month and a half. She passed away Friday, August 12, 1932.

She leaves to mourn her loss one brother, Andrew BURKE of Ipswitch, South Dakota; two half sisters, Etta SHANSTROM of Seattle, Washington, and Della SHANSTROM of Butte, Montana; two half brothers, Isaac SHANSTROM of Fairfield, Iowa, and Jacob SHANSTROM of Fairfield, Iowa, where she has made her home; a half sister, Anna EGTIVET of Edmonds, Washington, also one nephew and five nieces.

The middle name is "Christana" in her obituary. A Evergreen Cemetery transcription done as of December 1990 used "Christina". Not sure which version is more correct; will use the obituary published "Christana" pending any clarification.

... --Mrs. J. E. FRAZIER and children of Cedar Rapids have been staying at the Jay SHANSTROM home, where she was helping care for her aunt, Miss Tillie BURKE, who passed away last week Sunday. Mr. FRAZIER joined his family here and after visiting relatives around Fairfield, they left for their home, accompanied by their cousins, Richard and Madeline SHANSTROM.
