Leonard Nelson FRESCOLN, 80, former Fairfield banker, died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday at Nelson Nursing Home.
FRESCOLN was named vice president and cashier of the First National Bank in Fairfield in January, 1940. He had also been associated with banks in Eldon, Batavia and Memphis, Mo. In later years he was employed at Fritts Auto Parts until his retirement in 1970. The family home is at 1106 S. Third.
He had served as a member of the Eldon school board, he was treasurer of the Wapello County fair board for 13 years, he had served as treasurer of the Fairfield school board, and had served as director of Sunnyslope in Ottumwa.
FRESCOLN was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Clinton Lodge AF&AM No. 15; past president of Rotary, past worthy matron of Eastern Star; he was a member of the Elks and the Shrine.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Masonic rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with visitation following. A memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home.
Leonard Nelson FRESCOLN was born April 27, 1902, in Agency. He was the son of Edgar and Lillian NELSON FRESCOLN, and reared and educated in the Batavia Community.
He was married Dec. 12, 1925 at the Methodist Chapel in Ottumwa to Helen KOONS. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Nels FRESCOLN, Vinton; a daughter, Marilyn KANE, Fairfield; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mable FRESCOLN who resides in Missouri. He was preceded in death by a sister.
