Max BUERKENS

Max Gerard BUERKENS, 82, 807 W. Taylor Ave., died at 8:13 a.m. Monday, March 30, 1998, at Jefferson County Hospital.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with the Rev. Ed Parker officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Open visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Nelson Nursing Home.

Mr. BUERKENS was born Nov. 12, 1915, in Monroe County near Blakesburn, the son of Charles Edward and Amelia GAASS BUERKENS.

The Buerkens family moved to a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of Libertyville in 1919. Mr. Buerkens graduated from Libertyville High School in 1933. He entered the U. S. Navy Oct. 18, 1939, and was discharged Oct. 23, 1945. He served in World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 2271 in Fairfield. In 1946, he farmed in Liberty Township until he retired. He moved to Libertyville housing in 1984.

Mr. BUERKENS was single.

Survivors include one sister, Elizabeth "Sue" BONNETT of Fairfield; one brother, Bobbie of Napa, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Julius, Earl, Archie, Gene, John, Barney, Charles and Lee; two sisters, Helen KIGER and Artie LANE.
