Barney BUERKENS, 89, died at 4:30 a.m. today, Jan. 5, 1994, at Nelson Nursing Home.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Clark officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Libertyville Community Center.
BUERKENS was born July 30, 1904, in Hale, Mo., Linn County, the son of Charles Edward and Amelia GAASS BUERKENS. He had lived in the Libertyville area since 1919 and farmed in Liberty Township until he retired. He was affiliated with the Methodist church.
Surviving are three brothers, Bob of Anaheim, Calif., Max of Fairfield, Lee of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters, Elizabeth BONNETT of Libertyville, Artie LANE of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Julius, John, Earl, Archie, Charles, Gene, and a sister, Helen KIGER.
