Vern V. SAMUELSON

Vern V. SAMUELSON, 89, 804 W. Kirkwood Ave., died at 5:10 a.m. today, Monday July 3, 1995, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation begins Wednesday at Behner Funeral home with the family present from 7 to 8 that night. Memorials have been established to the First Lutheran Church and the American Cancer Society.

SAMUELSON was born May 2, 1906, in Memphis, Mo., the son of Andrew G. and Jennie HEISEL SAMUELSON. On Dec. 17, 1927, he married Grace L. MESSER at the First Lutheran Church parsonage in Fairfield. A resident of Jefferson County for most of his life, he worked as a molder for 37 years at Iowa Malleable Iron Co., starting in 1936. After retiring, he worked at Jefferson Motor Co., from 1973 to 1988, and later at Fairfield Toyota. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Eagles Lodge 1927.

Surviving are his wife: two sons, Merlin "Sammy" and Donald, both of Fairfield; two daughters, Marjorie BEUER of Burlington, Wanda KESSEL of Fairfield; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd of Central City; and four sisters, Virginia MANLEY of Warren, Mich., Vera BAILEY of Burlington, Velma GARMOE of Mount Pleasant and Geneva SEIFERSof Davenport. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest, Clarence, Victor; a sister, Pearl; and two great-great-grandchildren.
