Claude M. BROWN Dies At Hospital

Claude M. BROWN, long-time resident of Fairfield passed away Saturday afternoon at Jefferson County hospital.

His death came at 2:20 p.m. after he had been a patient at the hospital since Dec. 24. He had been in failing health for several years.

Last rites will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Hoskins Funeral home with the Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Claude M. BROWN, 73, was born Oct. 26, 1881, in Henry county, Iowa, the son of the late Richard and Harriett CHURCHILL BROWN. He was reared and educated in Henry county.

He united in marriage on April 8, 1903 to Rebecca Ann MESSER, who survives. The wedding took place at Mt. Pleasant.

He had been a resident of Fairfield since 1912 and the family home is located at 204 E. Monroe street, At one time he was employed by the Davies Oil company in Fairfield and later served as maintenance man the Mid Continental Oil company until he retired in 1984.

Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Charles E. BROWN, Calona, Ill., Mrs. Agnes PLANTS, Inglewood, Calif., Mrs. Ruth GRAFF, Davenport, Harold BROWN, Park Ridge. Ill., Mrs. Baunita REEVES, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Mrs. Jessie ERNST, Greybull, Wyo., Clifford BROWN Cambridge, Ia., Mrs. Eulalia SALVANO, Saratoga, Calif., Mrs. Catherine JOHNSON, at home, Mrs. Alice ADKINS, Fairfield, Mrs. Harriett ALLISON, Brighton.

He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one brother, Lyle BROWN, Carlisle, Ia; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna SAMONS, Carlisle, Mrs. May HUFFMAN, Indianola, Ia, and Mrs. Gertrude ARNOLD, Buffalo, Ia.

Mr. BROWN was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Richard and Billy, and two brothers.
