James SIMMONS rites Tuesday

James E. SIMMONS, 54, 907 W. Stone, died at 9 a.m. at the University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Graveside services with military rites by Fairfield VFW Post 2271 will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Kaufman officiating. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at Behner Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City.

SIMMONS was born April 17, 1933 in Fairfield, the son of James Henry and Ina Mae MYERS SIMMONS. He married Shirley Jean ELLIS Sept. 2, 1954 in Fairfield. Except for 14 years in Ottumwa, he had lived most of his life in the Fairfield community. He had worked in the machine shop at Indian Hills Community College and was last employed in electric motor repair for Hellyers Electric for 15 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Dan, Hedrick, Charles, at home; two daughters, Sheryl BRADY, Fairfield; Tina SIMMONS, at home; two grandchildren; a brother, Hally “Butch” SIMMONS, Fairfield; a sister, Frances PHILLIPS, Mount Pleasant; two half-sisters, Beatrice RANDALL, Auburn, Wash.; Margarette BURNS, Seattle, Wash.

His parents preceded him in death.

Buried: Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Evergreen 117, space 4
