John A. WINTER, 70, 804 W. Grimes, died at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday at Jefferson County Hospital. He had been in failing health the last three months.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. James H. Battey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church.
Winter was born June 28, 1914 in Fairfield, the son of John and Elfie Dell LONGERBONE WINTER. On Dec. 19, 1936, he married Esther KIRKPATICK at Birmingham. A lifelong resident of the Fairfield community, he had worked as traffic manager at Fairfield Aluminum Castings Company for 35 years before retiring Dec. 31, 1982. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Joanne WINTER of Fairfield, Linda WIDMER of West Chester; two grandchildren, Tiff WIDMER, who made his home with his grandparents, and Tara WIDMER of West Chester; three sisters, Beatrice CRAWFORD of Washington, Juanita SCOTT of New Castle, Wyo., Freda MARR of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Russel of Libertyville and Lawrence “Unk” WINTER of West Des Moines. His parents, a sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
Buried: Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Evergreen 8, space 5
