Alice M. CAMPBELL, 92, formerly of Brighton, died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at Brighton United Church, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be in Packwood Cemetery.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the family present from 7-8 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Brighton First Responders, City of Brighton Park Pavilion Addition or the Brighton Volunteer Fire Department.
Mrs. CAMPBELL was born May 6, 1910, in Montevista, Colo., the daughter of Walter and Jessie B. HUFFMAN RAINS. She married Roy CAMPBELL Jan. 22, 1930. He died June 25, 1973.
Mrs. CAMPBELL was raised in Packwood and graduated from Packwood High School in 1929. She had lived in Richland and worked at Hoekstra's Jack Spraat Grocery Store for several years before moving to Brighton in 1949 where she and her husband owned and operated the Roy Alice Cafe for 23 years. Later she reopened the cafe as Alice's Coffee Shop. Mrs. CAMPBELL retired in in 1973 but worked part-time as a bookkeeper/clerk for Mineart Appliance in Brighton.
Mrs. CAMPBELL attended the Brighton United Methodist Church, Chapter B of TTT in Brighton, Mary Modern Club and the Equality Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Katie McCLURG ALLISON of Washington and Charlotte SMITH of Lake Oswego, Or.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her parents and husband Roy preceded her in death.
