Rites For M. SMITH

BATAVIA --- Margaret SMITH, 85, long-time resident of the Batavia community, died Monday, 4 p.m., at Henry County Memorial Hospital in Mount Pleasant. She had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill for ? days.

Miss SMITH was born April 3, 1890 in Wapello County, the daughter of H. E. Nettie DeGOOD SMITH. She had lived most of her life six miles north of Batavia.

Surviving are three sisters, Grace ODUM and Mrs. Maude NORDYKE, both of Batavia, and Arminta GOBBLE of Ottumwa; three brothers, R. E. SMITH of Douds, Carl SMITH of Maple Plain, Minn., and John SMITH of California. One brother preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Smith Cemetery, six miles north of Batavia with the Rev. Kermit Black officiating. The body is at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Note: the copy of this obituary that I received had been trimmed too close on the right side, I could figure out everything but how long she was ill.
