Raymond HUPP dies at 52

BATAVIA --- Raymond John HUPP, 52, Route 1, Batavia, died of a massive heart attack at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at University Hospitals in Iowa City. He was first taken to the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield and transferred to the Iowa City hospital by air care helicopter.

Services have been tentatively set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Raymond Funeral Home. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery north of Batavia.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Raymond John HUPP was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Jefferson County. He was the son of John R. and Mabel CARLSON HUPP. He was married Sept. 17, 1964, at Carthage, Ill,, to Donamontha DAVIS, who survives.

Other survivors include four children: Robert BLACK and Marilyn NAILL both of Milton; Myra MARTIN, Bloomfield; and Laura LAUMEYER, Ottumwa; eight grandchildren.

Also his mother, Mabel HUPP, Batavia; a brother, Glenn HUPP, Ottumwa; and a sister, Doris TOTEMEIER, New London. He was preceded in death by his father.

Hupp spent his entire life in Jefferson County. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Latter Day Saints Church, VFW and American Legion. He was a member of the Iowa Association of Veteran Affairs Commissioners and Jefferson county Board of Veterans Affairs.
