Woman Dies After Crash

Services will be Monday at the Raymond Funeral Home for Alma BLACK, 82, native of Jefferson county who died Thursday evening of injuries received in a traffic accident. The services will be at 2 p.m.

She was riding in a car driven by her husband, P. Earl BLACK, 82, which collided with another on U.S. Highway 63 about six miles north of Ottumwa about 5 p.m. Thursday.

Three persons in the other car suffered only minor injuries.

Mrs. BLACK was taken to Ottumwa Hospital following the crash where she died.

Alma BLACK was born Dec. 17, 1893, in Jefferson county near Salina, the daughter of Henry and Rosina KELCHER JOHNSON. She was reared and educated in rural schools in Lockridge Township.

She was married in 1915 to Jelmer SANDELL at Mount Pleasant and later married Earl BLACK in 1936.

Mrs. BLACK is survived by her husband who is listed in critical condition in the Ottumwa Hospital following the accident; also two daughter, Mrs. Marna NEWCOMB, Reseda, Calif., and Mrs. Patricia HEYVEART, Washington; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two step sons, Glen BLACK, Ottumwa, and Rex BLACK, Florida; two step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph JOHNSON, Salina.

Mr. and Mrs. BLACK moved to Ottumwa three years ago from Cedar Rapids where they had operated a shoe repair shop. Previously they had operated a shoe shop in Iowa City for over 20 years.
