Page 8, Column 4Stroke Fatal To Samuel K. SMITH
Samuel K. SMITH, well known resident of Fairfield, passed away early this morning at the Jefferson county hospital. His death came at 3:20 a.m.
He suffered two light strokes in early November but was able to be around. He suffered another stroke Saturday and was taken to the hospital Saturday evening.
Last rites will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Free Methodist church with the Rev. Harold T. Rasche in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will remain at the Weston Behner funeral home until noon on the day of the services at which time it will be taken to the church.
Samuel K. SMITH. 71, was born Dec. 17, 1881, at Salina, Kan. He had made his home in and near Fairfield for the past 40 years. He was employed at the Picken Firestone store for about 10 years, but of late was employed by the city. He was a member of the Free Methodist church.
He was united in marriage to Gertrude TURNER who passed away in 1943. He is survived by the following step-children: Fred TURNER, Fairfield, and Mrs. Dale RUBY, Keosauqua.
On Sept. 16, 1945, he was married to Bessie BURNETT who survives. The marriage took place at Kansas City, Kan. He is also survived by these step-children, Mrs. Beulah BAKER, Fairfield; Harold BURNETT, Newton, and Gerald BURNETT now serving with the U. S. navy at San Francisco. He is also survived by a brother, Lou SMITH, of Mt. Pleasant.
Prior to his coming to Fairfield 40 years ago, SMITH made his home at Mt. Pleasant.

Note: Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, in Lot 2nd.128 with his second wife Bessie. His first wife, Gertrude, is buried nearby with her first husband, Tom TURNER.
