Mrs. Sam K. SMITH, 52, passed away this morning at 10:20 a.m. at her home at 50½ South 'B' street following an illness of about one year.
Gertrude JOHNSON, the daughter of Perl and Belle JOHNSON, was born in Eldon in 1893 and was married to Tom TURNER who preceded her in death in 1928. She married Sam SMITH in 1931, who survives. She was a member of the Free Methodist church and had spent nearly all of her life in Fairfield.
Surviving besides her husband are her father, Perl JOHNSON of Eldon; a daughter, Mrs. Dale RUBEY of Ft. Madison; a son, Fred TURNER of Fairfield; three brothers: Bill JOHNSON of Des Moines; Lynn JOHNSON of Eldon and Bert, in service in Maine; one sister, Lela CARLYLE of Cedar Rapids and two grandchildren.
The body is at the Weston Behner Funeral Home awaiting funeral arrangements.

Note: Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, in Lot 2nd.232 with her first husband Tom. Second husband Sam is buried nearby in Evergreen with his first wife Bessie.
