Terrance K. ELLIS

Terrance K. ELLIS, 61, of Charlotte, died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 20, 2011.

A service was held this morning at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Brian Saunders and the Rev. Dennis Arndt officiating.

Memorials may be made to Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, or Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte.

Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home of DeWitt.

The Rev. ELLIS was born Nov. 1, 1949, in Cass City, Mich., the son of Floyd and Betty KING ELLIS. He married Sandra Ann ROHN July 5, 1969, in Blissfield Township, Mich.

The Rev. ELLIS was baptized Dec. 31, 1967. He was a 1967 graduate of Akron-Fairgrove High School in Michigan. He furthered his education at Ferris State College, studying radio and television repair. He worked as a welder at Evans Factory in Gagetown, Mich.

The Rev. ELLIS was drafted into the United States Army and served from June 1970 until January 1972 in the 82nd Airborne Division. He then completed a bachelor of arts degree from Saginaw Valley State College in 1980. He attended Concordia Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind., and then served a dual parish at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairfield and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Keosauqua as pastor until 1989. In January 1989, he became pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte.

The Rev. ELLIS enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing hockey as a goalie, spending time with his family and serving his congregations.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Bonnie McCARTY and husband Les of Fairfield, Chris ELLIS of Maquoketa and Terry ELLIS Jr. and wife Michelle of Alexander; five grandchildren; and one brother, Richard ELLIS of Gould City, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
