Ethel Mae THOMAN GARMOE

Ethel Mae (THOMAN) GARMOE born May 29, 1922 passed away on October 20th, 2011 at her home.

Ethel was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. Ethel was a country schoolteacher at Spring Valley near Elgin, Iowa, her hometown. She also worked for Merchant's National Bank in Cedar Rapids where she met her husband Earl E. GARMOE. She was a realtor for Hayes Realty and Action Realty in Fairfield and also a medical assistant for Dr. Ludwig Gittler and his lovely wife, Maxine, for many years.

Ethel and Earl were married for 43 years, until Earl passed away in 1993. Ethel moved to Adel in 2006 where she made many new friends and could spend more time with her family. Ethel loved her churches, family, and was an avid bridge player and was active with Questers and many civic organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Bert and Celia THOMAN of Elgin; her daughter: Linda Kay GARMOE, who accidentally died scuba diving in California; her husband: Earl; her sister-in-law: Ruth (Ted) PLOWMAN of Douds; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins in West Bend and Elgin.

She is survived by her daughter: Jeanie (Jerry) ANDERSON; granddaughter: Jolynn (Kevin) REIGELUTH and Jill (Travis) BELGARDE; as well as niece: Nancy DOZIER of Marion, and an honorary grandson: Luke ANDERSON of Adel.

Ethel will be remembered for her kind heart and wonderful sense of humor. Ethel is dearly loved, and will be missed by her friends and family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with Pastors Medea Saunders and Bruce Wittern.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Adel or Fairfield or to the American Cancer Society. Cards and memorials can be sent to 33320 Old Portland Lane, Adel, Iowa 50003.
