Gerald Lee SWYGARD, age 81 of 105 West Adams Ave. in Fairfield died at 3:12 P.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Jefferson County Health Center.
Jerry was born May 7, 1930 at Davenport, Iowa to Karl J. and Ruth VANNICE SWYGARD.
The family moved to rural Libertyville in 1937 and to the Birmingham community in 1946. He graduated from Birmingham High School in 1948.
He married Nellie MUNTZ of Keosauqua on September 22, 1951 at the Keosauqua Methodist Church.
He was a salesman for Sitler's Automotive and Electric and King's Distributing.
He served in the Iowa National Guard for 10 years.
Jerry served on the Senior Citizen Board of Directors and the Community Childcare Board providing many hours as a volunteer.
Deceased family members include his parents, three brothers: Gene, Bill and Gordon, and two sisters Nancy KEEMER and his twin Geraldine in infancy.
Surviving are his wife Nellie; 2 sons Stephen SWYGARD of Fairfield and Timothy (Yamila) SWYGARD of Sunrise, Florida; 3 grandchildren: Kelly, Kassandra and Thomas SWYGARD and 1 great granddaughter Lana and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry has deeded his body to the University of Iowa Hospital Anatomy department.
No service is scheduled at this time.
The Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family with the arrangements.
