M. Elizabeth WEMMIE, 98, of Batavia, died at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia.

M. Elizabeth WEMMIE

M. Elizabeth WEMMIE, age 98 of Batavia, passed away at 3:20 PM, Sunday, October 16 at Good Samaritan Society of Van Buren County in Keosauqua.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 21 at Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, with Pastor Gordon Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 20 at Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, where the family will be present for visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday evening.

Mary Elizabeth was born on December 2, 1912 in Rock Island County, Iowa (sic - IL?), the daughter of Henry and Mary Alice WILKENSON KRANTZ. On April 5, 1938 she married George WEMMIE in Muscatine, Iowa, and he preceded her in death on February 23, 2004.

Survivors include two sons, Paul WEMMIE and wife Mary I. of Batavia, and David WEMMIE and wife Linda of Granville, IL; one daughter, Martha WEMMIE of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers, and two sisters.

Elizabeth taught in rural schools for three years before her marriage. She then became a homemaker, and helped her husband on their family farm. She attended the Floris Baptist Church.

A memorial fund is being established for the Floris Baptist Church, or Good Samaritan Society of Van Buren County.
