Pg. 3 Col. 7 & 8Death of Mrs. A.B. SCOTT
A sad announcement was that of Sunday morning which told of the death of Mrs. A. B. SCOTT (sic. Abram B SCOTT), at an early hour of that day. She had been an invalid for several years, suffering from some mysterious disease causing hemorrhages of the stomach, still her death was really unexpected by her friends. Since June she had been confined to her room much of the time, but had been perceptibly failing until death claimed her.
Mrs. SCOTT's maiden name was Sarah E. EVANS. She was a daughter of Joseph and Mary EVANS, and was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, September 2d, 1838. She grew to womanhood in her native county, and on March 18th, 1858, was married to A. B. SCOTT. After their marriage they remained in Pennsylvania until March, 1867, when a removal was made to this county, Mr. SCOTT purchasing a farm north of this city, where they have made their home. The family had lived in the city a few months, and again removed here a few days previous to Mrs. SCOTT's death. Three children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Scott. One son, W. E., a daughter, Mary, now live in Fairfield, while another daughter (sic. Sarah/Sadie SCOTT), just budding into womanhood, died in the early summer (sic. May 19, 1883). And it is from the date of this child's death that Mrs. SCOTT's most serious condition existed. Deceased was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church at an early age, and in later years united with the Presbyterian church of which denomination she was a member at the date of her death. Mrs. SCOTT was a true christian woman, and although her sickness of later years incapacitated her for labor in the church or in fields away from her home, she was ever in kindly sympathy with the afflicted and distressed, and ever ready to lighten their burdens. She was an affectionate and dutiful wife, a fond and loving mother, devoted to her family and friends, but she never allowed her kindly deeds to stop at her own threshold. As a neighbor and companion she was lovable and loved, of sweet and generous disposition. There are many friends outside the family circle, both here and at her old home, who will sorrow at the announcement of her death, and who will sympathize with her husband and children in the great affliction. The funeral occurred Monday afternoon fromthe family residence in this city, the remains being interred in the Evergreen cemetery. Dr. Ewing, her pastor, conducted the funeral service.
Joseph EVANS, Mrs. Scott's aged father, makes his home with the family in this city. Of his seven children, but one is now living, Mrs. J.C. MILLIKIN, of this city, and she and Mrs. SCOTT were the only two who ever reached ages of maturity.
