Virginia 'Gin' Lynne McEVILLEY

Virginia "Gin" Lynne McEVILLEY of Maharishi Vedic City, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 12:34 a.m. in the comfort of her home and in the loving embrace of her dedicated team of care givers.

The body has been cremated according to her wishes.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Gabriel's All Angels Liberal Catholic Church on Saturday, November 5 at 1:30 with a reception immediately following at the home of Vicki and Ed Malloy.

Virginia was born September 10, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio to John Paul McEVILLEY and Elizabeth PHILLIPS McEVILLEY.

Virginia graduated from Summit County Day School for Girls in 1967. In November of 1969 she began her practice of Transcendental Meditation. She was then trained as a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Technique in Estes Park, Colorado in 1970. In 1972 she spent a lot of time teaching meditation, working as a proofreader for the Santa Monica Press and did free lance writing as well.

She then went on to college in Athens, Ohio to the University of Ohio. While attending school she was the in-resident T.M. teacher and taught over 200 students how to meditate. Virginia graduated from Ohio University Cum Laude and received an academic scholarship to the University of Cincinnati. There she received her Masters in Education. After graduation she taught school in the inner city for a year.

Virginia then moved to Fairfield in 1979 to be a part of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Creating Coherence Program for many years. She also attended what was then Maharishi International University and graduated in 1996 with another Masters degree in Professional Writing. After graduation from M.I.U. she went on and founded, Everybody's News, a newspaper devoted to better health through organic food and farming, alternative healing methods and other health related issues. She was Editor-in-Chief of the paper for three years.

Virginia loved spending time with her family during the holidays, Friday nights out with her girl friends, swimming, reading, writing poetry, traveling to far-away places, watching Bollywood movies and anything related to butterflies. She wanted to be remembered for her love of writing and deep desire to create world peace. Many of those who knew her will also remember Virginia for her bright intellect and independent nature.

During her long illness Virginia always had the presence of mind to take care of the details needed to deal with her challenging situation. She was an inspiration to many who watched her in action.

After living in Fairfield for the past 32 years she will be deeply missed by many of her dear friends.

Survivors include her brother R. Mick McEVILLEY, Dayton, Kentucky, three nieces Molly McEVILLEY and husband Timothy LAWRENCE, Cincinnati, Ohio, Elizabeth CHUMTONG and husband Jeerasak CHUMTONG, Bankok, Thailand and Jennifer McEVILLEY, Cincinnati, Ohio, one nephew, Peter McEVILLEY and wife Barbara McEVILLEY, Los Angeles, California and her great nieces Ellie, Kira and great nephews Jack, Michael and Oliver.
