Leland Keith CREW

Leland Keith CREW, 83, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully, September 20, 2011 at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Nate Nims officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Trojan Booster Club or First United Methodist Church. Cards and memorials may be sent to Steve Crew at 609 E. Alta Vista, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.

Lee was born May 22, 1928 in Fairfield, to Keith and Francis OLSON CREW. He married Carol Jean SWITZER on June 5, 1949 at First Christian Church in Fairfield. She passed away February 2, 1998.

He graduated from Iowa Teachers College in 1952. While there, he started in both football and track. After graduating, he returned to the Fairfield area and taught and coached football, basketball, baseball, track and gymnastics for 34 years, retiring in 1990.

Lee is survived by 2 sons: Steve (Teresa) CREW of Ottumwa and Tom (Cynthia) CREW of Keokuk; 8 grandchildren: Jenny JENKINS, Jason CREW, Brian CHASE, Sara WOOD, Luke CHASE, Zack CHASE, Jeremey DALBEY and Jamie SCHADT; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Bruce (Judy) CREW of Rock Hill, South Carolina and James Clair (Michele) CREW of West Minster, Maryland and special friend: Myrna Gilpin of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Carol and 1 daughter: Deborah Ruth CREW.
