Alfred Davis LAWSON was born in Sneedsville, Hancock county, Tenn., Dec. 11, 1856, and departed this life Jan. 3, 1905. His parents moved to Iowa, while he was an infant. He was united in marriage to Miss Catherine (sic - Catharine on her gravestones) BONNETT, November 9, 1881. Eight children were born to this union; two dying in infancy. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an affectionate son and brother. He was esteemed highly by acquaintances and friends; always having a kind and cheerful word for everyone. His wife, six children, his mother, three sisters and four brothers survive him and mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at the Dunkard church, conducted by Rev. C. Springer and his body was interred at the Stelle (sic - Steele, a/k/a Cumberland) cemetery. The K. of P's of which he was a member conducted services at the grave.

*Transcribed for genealogy purposes; I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Note: Catharine died 35 years after Alfred, and in the meantime Cumberland Cemetery had closed. Today it is heavily grown-over. Catharine appears on a joint headstone with Alfred there but only her birthdate is noted. She is buried with one of their children in Evergreen Cemetery.
