David M. OLIVER, sr. (sic. Sr.), whose serious illness was noted in last week's LEDGER, died at his home in Polk township Friday evening (sic. May 13, 1898). He had been ill less than a week, and death was caused by hemorrhage of the kidneys. Mr. OLIVER was a native of Washington county, Pennsylvania, and was born October 4th, 1821. He was married to Jane TOWNE, who survives him, in his native state, and removed to Iowa nearly half a century ago. His home had been in Polk township all these years, and no man in that portion of the county has had higher standing in the community that was accorded Mr. OLIVER. He was a man of most worthy character, energetic, industrious, a model in his family and as a citizen. He was the father of eight children, five of whom, all residing in this county, survive him - Mrs. David METZLER (sic. Mary Ellen OLIVER METZLER), D. M. (sic. David M.), John G., L. M. (sic. Lucian M. OLIVER) and A. C. OLIVER (sic. Addison Cromwell OLIVER). Funeral services, which were largely attended, were held at the family residence Sunday morning by Revs. C. W. Coggeshall, H. C. Millice and John Chacey. The remains were brought to this city for interment, Rev. Goggeshall conducting the services at the grave.
