Last rites will be Friday afternoon for Sam R. LEWIS, retired Fairfield businessman who passed away yesterday at the Jefferson county hospital following a lengthy illness.
The services will be at 2:00 p.m at the Hoskins funeral home with the Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
He passed away at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday after being a patient at the hospital for eight months. He had been in poor health the past three years.
Samuel Roger LEWIS was born November 11, 1868, at Washington, Iowa, the son of the late John and Caroline WILSON LEWIS. He came to this community when a small child and spent practically his entire life in Fairfield.
He was united in marriage to Catherine RINGLESPACH (sic - RINGELSPACH) who preceded him in death on January 19, 1945.
LEWIS was a retired merchant, having operated a meat market here in Fairfield for 35 years. He was a member of the Golden Wedding club.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert FULTON, Des Moines; and Mrs. F. L. GAINES, Fairfield. He is also survive by six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, and a brother, Bert LEWIS, Des Moines.
One daughter, Mrs. Hazel BURNAUGH, preceded her father in death.
