WELL KNOWN MASON PASSES AWAY TUESDAY

O. C. SMITH dies in home at Abingdon following serious three weeks illness

O. C. SMITH, 88, passed away at his home in Abingdon at 5:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon following a serious illness during the past three weeks.

He had been a resident of Abingdon and vicinity practically all his life and had been an active farmer until retirement 17 years ago.

He married Maggie CLARK (sic - Margaret CLARKE) February 28, 1875, who preceded him in death in 1925. He was also preceded in death by one son, Willie in 1896.

SMITH was a member of the Christian church at Abingdon and had held every office of that church. He had been a member of A. F. and A. M. Lodge No. 104 of Abingdon for 51 years and belonged to the Ottumwa Council No 31 R. and S. M. and Clinton Chapter No. 9 R. M.

He was the last surviving member of the SMITH family.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian church in Abingdon with the Rev. S. P. Williamson of Fairfield in charge. Burial will take place in the Abingdon cemetery.

The body will be taken to the SMITH home this evening from the Campbell funeral Home in Batavia.
