MRS. GEORGE LIBLIN, Sr.
Mary Ann LONG, daughter of the Rev. Jessie and Nancy LONG, was born in Tennessee, April 18, 1843. The first four years of her life were spent in that state, thence coming to Iowa with her parents. In Van Buren and Jefferson counties she grew to young womanhood.
On January 1, 1861 she was united in marriage to George LIBLIN, who preceded her in death December 10, 1920. To this union were born seven children, five sons and two daughters, all living except William who died in young manhood. The children left to mourn the departed parents are: George, Edward, Melissa and Sylvester of Fairfield, Frank of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. Della FICKLE (sic. FICKEL) of Batavia, also four grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Elmina HODSON of Woodston, Kansas and Mrs. Melissa DILLER of Washington, Iowa, who was present at the funeral service.
She had been in failing health since the loss of her husband and yet of a disposition to conceal her deep sorrow and pain in her endeavor to bear her bereavement.
She was taken seriously ill on Friday, March 23 and passed peacefully away on Sunday evening at eight oclock, March 25, 1923. Had she lived until April 18 she would have been eighty years of age.
Mrs. LIBLIN was converted in early life and her Christian spirit and influence has been known and felt by all those who came in contact with her. She was greatly beloved by her family, friends and neighbors, being kind and thoughtful of the comfort and pleasure of others.
The spacious home where children now weep has been the center of many pleasant events, and each one will miss her sweet face and cheery smiles, but pleasant memories remain in their minds of a precious mother.
The funeral was held at the family residence on Wednesday at two oclock in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly of the Christian church. The pall bearers were the nephews of Mrs. LIBLIN: Louis, Frank, Jim, Ben, Joe, and John LIBLIN.
The hymns were, "Going Down the Valley", "Nearer My God to Thee", and "Jesus Lover of My Soul". Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.
